Sheltered Rulers

They lie, the politicians…
Each word from their mouth falls ignorantly
From their ivory towers

Out of touch…
Out of sight…

Poverty is far away for them
A distance distaste
The turn up their noses at the stench they create.

They turn away from the horror of the image of poverty.

Each word is a lie.
Catchphrases…
Slogans…
Charisma…
Like game show hosts…
They’re selling you complacency
They start so far ahead they can’t even see the line.

Austerity – a lie
Equality – a lie
A fair playing field – a lie
Low wages…
Defunding…

We are the disposable workforce
We are the unwanted welfare
They see no potential in the working class beyond their own selfish needs.
Yet we are complacent
And they slowly starve us all
As they fill their heavy pockets.

False compassion…
No care…
They cling to their power only

Misdirection…
Bickering…
Arguing…

They don’t see humans
They see profits
They see workers
and consumers and suckers.

We are all their marks.

They swindle us
They bleed us dry
From their palaces

They are not like us.
They are not on our side.

Politicians lie.
